I. Kidneys and Lymphatics
The kidneys are the main organs that function to filter waste from the blood. They are very dependent upon proper mineral balance to do so. The most important and abundant mineral in the body is calcium. This is because 90% of all chemical reactions depend on calcium as a catalyst (the thing that causes the reaction to go). The lymphatics are a vast network of vessels, much like blood vessels, that run throughout the body and surround the organs. These vessels carry the “dirty dishwater” of the body to a major blood vessel which then is filtered via the kidneys.
Overloaded kidneys and lymphatics cause a backup of toxic waste to the tissues and organs.
II. Large Intestine (Colon)
This is where the body consolidates waste from food. Whatever has not been digested by the stomach and small intestine, and then absorbed by the small intestine into the bloodstream, passes into the large intestine for consolidation and removal.
Overload and backup here causes an impaction of waste in the colon, which can further backup into the small intestine compromising absorption of food.
The liver is responsible for over 500 functions in the body including fat metabolism, hormone breakdown and deactivation, sugar storage and conversion factors, and blood coagulation factors to name a few.
One of its main functions is removing poisons from the body. It dumps those poisons directly into the intestines to be eliminated by the colon. Some symptoms of liver overload are unexplained fatigue, poor appetite, bruising, swelling of the legs, headaches, hormone imbalances such as PMS and difficulty with menopause, digestive problems, sensitivities to chemicals, and an inability to tolerate medications.
Once the body is purified, the organs and tissues will begin repairing any damage that had been done. This requires plenty of raw materials in the form of high quality protein, essential fats, and whole carbohydrates. A diet of whole, organic foods (no chemicals, hormones, fillers, colorings, etc.) is of extreme importance as to not get the body in the same condition it was prior to it being detoxified.
Every body has its own biochemical individuality, i.e. its own specific needs for foods that it works best with. For example, some bodies need more protein than others do, some need more minerals or even a specific mineral, some need more water. When the body is healthy, you can trust its cravings.
Give the body what it is asking for. An unhealthy body will crave unhealthy things like chocolate, sugar, white bread, etc… This is a clue as to whether or not your body is healthy. What is it craving? Healthy bodies ask for vegetables, water, protein, etc. Unhealthy bodies crave foods that supply quick, easy energy. This is because a healthy body can derive energy from whole food sources whereas an unhealthy body cannot.
Realize that no matter how clean a life we live, our planet is still very toxic. This is why it is very important to control the toxic invasion on our bodies whenever we can. Our bodies are constantly detoxifying and draining. Therefore, when you do a purification program, what you are really doing is handling the backlog of toxins that are clogging the liver, lymphatics, and intestines. Once the backlog is handled, the body repairs and rejuvenates as it continues to detoxify the everyday toxins.
So, the more vigilant one is in keeping toxins out of your life, the better chance you have of living healthfully. Unfortunately, currently, we must take extraordinary means to live an extraordinary life. With heart disease, diabetes, and cancer on the rise, what is extraordinary today is what nature intended to be normal.
